AlphaTrainer enables neurofeedback training by providing a real time feedback on its users alpha brain wave activity (~ 8-12 Hz). Alpha brain waves are correlated with relaxation and the ability to de-stress and has, for example, been observed to increase during meditation. Conversely, stress manifests itself as a so-called "alpha blocking" i.e. the inability to increase alpha activity.

Alpha feedback training is a well documented scientific method for increasing alpha level and it is used clinically in stress treatment. AlphaTrainer was built to comply with the signal processing described in the neurofeedback literature. It is the first and currently the only mobile application which performs individual calibration of the alpha frequency and alpha level which is described in the literature as extremely important in order for the neuro feedback training's efficacy.

Currently, AlphaTrainer only supports the NeuroSky MindWave Mobile EEG headset, but we plan to add support for other BCIs as they are released. The app contains a "dummy headset" which enables playing with the application without the need for an actual BCI.
