My daughter, Emily, plays trombone in the high school marching band. This is her 3rd year and she is section leader.

The marching band was invited to Oslo, Norway next year to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Staabek school, who has visited Alexandria twice. They will be heading to Norway in June of next year for a week full of camaraderie around music and visiting a beautiful part of the world. This is a once in a lifetime trip!



They have just started a fundraiser with Schwan's Foods...the frozen food that gets delivered right to your door. Anyone in the continental US can order online and have it delivered right to them. Emily gets 20% of food sales and $10 for every $25 e-certificate ordered (1 per person, per fundraiser). This program has helped MANY students and organizations around the country.

I hope everyone's Christmas was wonderful and that we're all glad that the world did not end. I know I am!

My sister, her hubby and the parents were here and we came up with an awesome drinking game...JENGA! Everytime you take out a piece and place it on top, you take a drink. If you knock the tower down, you chug your drink. DANG that is fun!! James even drank his rum and Cokes that were mostly Cokes. he had to chug THREE times!

Got some new jammies and some clothes that fit. This is important since I don't like having to pull my jeans up all the time and I really don't look attractive in clothes that are too big.

Next year, I really want to travel somewhere. I'd love to go to Boston and visit lunalovepotter simply because she's fabulous and I miss her. I'd also like to go somewhere for my anniversary in July. I've tossed out Puerto Rico or Mexico, but James plays the wet blanket and says it's either too expensive or he doesn't want to get a passport. Whatever.

Anyhow, what's this I hear about LJ discontinuing paid accounts? And when did everyone migrate to DreamWidth. I've redone my DW account, so maybe I'll be using it more. I don't know. I'm ALMONDJOYZ on DreamWidth and would love to have more than three people in my reading circle.

Because aggiebell90 has had some rough few days and because her prompts attakingitinturns inspired me, I've begun writing a piece based on those prompts. It's titled "To All the Boys" and is a series of vignettes dedicated to the boys that Ginny has liked and loved in her life. The first, of course, is Neville. Since Julie is a Neville fan-girl, I thought I'd share it to bring a little sunshine into her life. PS--I'm making this public so if you know any other Neville fans, they can read it, too, so please feel free to share....

I went to VoldeMart for groceries today and picked up creme soda, butterscotch topping and whipped topping.

Then, the grand experiment began. (It wasn't too much experimenting, actually.)

In a blender...

2 cups ice (there should be measurements on the blender container)
8 oz creme soda
1/4 c butterscotch topping

Blend until slushy

for the froth...

take 1/4 c whipped topping (Cool Whip, in my case) and put in a custard cup or similar
heat in the microwave for 8-10 seconds
mix it with a spoon until smooth and then add more Cool Whip until desired amount and smooth

pour butterbeer into a glass mug and top with the liquidy Cool Whip

OMG! This was SO good and very much like the frozen Butterbeer at WWoHP. The host at Hog's Head told us it was a non-dairy whipped topping thing, so I am pretty sure my version is very close.

Tonight, I'm having a Norwex home gathering. Norwex makes anti-bacterial microfiber cleaning cloths as well as all-natural, chemical-free cleaning products, laundry and dishwasher detergent. The cleaning cloths are embedded with silver and kill more bacteria than bleach.

I have the Enviro-cloth, and to clean my bathroom, all I use is water--no 409, no bleach, no cleaning solutions.

I also have the dusting mitt. It's a dry cleaning cloth and it picks up LOTS of dust. I also don't have to dust as often because when you use Pledge, the wetness attracts more dust.

If you're interested in any of the products and would like to order something, please let me know. As it turns out, there won't be very many people at my house tonight, and I'd like to make it worth the effort.

I made a little spa basket for the upcoming school auction. I crocheted some washcloths out of organic cotton yarn as well as a bath mitt and a bath puff. I also bought some things from Bath & Body Works and put them in the basket, too.
I then decided that, hey, I could make these to sell!

I got an LJ PM the other day, telling me that I've been nominated for Best NC17 Story for Changing Perceptions at The Unknowable Romm.
 
Huh.

That story is not necessarily completely NC17 but it's nice to be remembered. It's a "judged" competition, so I don't think you can just go and vote.

I'm a little...shocked.
