My chest is a locked well,
rope-burned, splintered
something inside keeps hauling buckets up,
water thick as rust,
hands blistered, bleeding into it.
A corridor of doors
iron-lipped, swollen with rain
I walk past each one barefoot,
listening to wood swell and crack,
to whispers trapped like moths behind them,
beating themselves to dust.
