The Longest Day of the Year

Parent-Teacher interviews tonight.

At the end of the first term when report cards go out we have to meet with the parents of all the students in our class. In the second and third terms we only meet with those parents we need to see or who request interviews. It means first term interviews make for a very long Thursday, since we teach all day and then continue with about five hours of parent interviews that night (plus 2 to 4 hours of interviews the next day, too).

It hasn't helped any, either, that I'm still fighting the same cold I've had since last week. Sigh, I had to cancel yesterday's Urban Tapestry practice and I got very little sleep last night since I woke up in a panic around 3:30 to discover my throat was so sore I had no voice (a typical cold symptom for me when I push through with teaching days when I should be at home recovering). So, I'm lying there at 3:30 in the morning wondering how the heck I'm going to do interviews the next day with no voice. And then I'm wildly going through the cupboards for throat lozenges and peppermint tea in the hopes of coaxing -some- of my voice back by morning.

So, here it is noon on interview day, I'm at school attempting as much as possible to conduct quiet activities in class so I can save my voice for tonight. I actually -do- have a voice right now, but it's precarious and I know my cold always gets worse at night. Hopefully, my voice will hold out or, if it doesn't, parents will have pity on me tonight and keep the interviews short :).

Living for 9:00 tonight and looking forward to the weekend when I can snuggle in with my new "Return of The King" soundtrack and Patrick O'Brian's first "Master and Commander" novel. Still hoping to get to a house filk at Sally Headford's place on Saturday, too, fingers crossed.
