Listens: "Galadriel's Lament"- Seanan McGuire

Newmarket

Went off to Newmarket last night to have a practice at Jodi's place. It's always kind of tricky to get out there since I have to walk about 30 minutes to catch a rush-hour bus (with a guitar) and travel about 45 minutes north, but in this weather I don't mind it too much and it's nice to give Jodi a driving break by heading up to Newmarket occasionally.

We had dinner at Kelsey's next to the bus terminal and then back to Jodi's place to review some more music for "The Gathering" (after eating some Black Forest frozen yogurt-yum). I had some harmonies to lay down for "Bilbo's Last Song" and Jodi and I firmed up some harmonies for "Golden Eyes". We looked at Heather Alexander's "Storyteller" for the first time and we reviewed Mark Osier's "Secret Rose", as well as "Sally Garden" and Enya's "Marble Halls" among others. No new Tolkien songs this week, though I may have a couple more ready to work on by next week and Deb has one in the works, too, and we're still waiting for the new Annie Lennox ROTK song to come out on November 25 (fingers crossed we can cover it). Thanks tons to cadhla who sent us a sound file of "Galadriel's Lament" that I heard just before leaving for school this morning. Such a pretty song. Next week. Yay.

Headed home with my tape recorder and about 30 minutes of practice tape music (Jodi didn't have a machine to dub copies). To my concern, when I got home there was only one song on the tape! We had easily recorded 6 or 7 songs. Unfortunately, we hadn't -tested- any of those songs after recording them and John's theory is that the battery in the mike we borrowed from him probably gave out, since he said it hasn't been replaced in ages. Sigh. We'll have to re-record it all next week, but, as Jodi pointed out, at least we did get a lot of practising in last night :).
