Chatelaine Walking Club

So, I've joined another walking club. Obsessed much? Maybe a little.

Chatelaine magasine is Canada's most popular women's magasine and I tend to read it each month. For the last few months I've noticed them advertising their on-line walking club. Curious, I finally checked it out this week. Some of the bonuses to their walking club is that they have on-line diaries for keeping track of your kilometres (a nice plus as I'm now trying to keep track of my mileage in three different places on-line), incentive prizes (a starter walking kit, sports socks, etc.) and contests you can enter just for signing up as a member. The present contest is a trip for two to a resort in Victoria, B.C.. The on-line diary also lets you track your diet, energy and stress level daily, which could be good exercise incentive, too.

It's all free, so I was sold. Being that I'm happy with my walking support groups at Tolkien OnLine's "Walk To Rivendell" and here on LJ at the "Good Eating Hobbits" community, I likely won't post to the message boards at Chatelaine, but I will enter my mileage each day and enter the contests. After joining on Thursday I got a letter telling me I could go to a Running Room store to pick up my starter kit. Unfortunately, the nearest Running Room involved in the walking club was in Newmarket, but since John and I wanted to start some Christmas shopping, anyway, we took a trip out to Newmarket to shop and pick up my kit. The walking kit included a Running Room velcro pouch for carrying your keys, which is cool, because I found key transportation rather tricky when I started running back in September, so it will come in handy when I begin running again in the Spring. The kit also had a bottle of hand lotion and several booklets and pamphlets with walking tips and advice. I know most of that stuff already, but the free velcro key pouch is cool.

I've been kind of sluggish and unmotivated since I made my decision to postpone my running program until Spring, so I figure anything to help me get back to walking consistently is good. Gotta start clocking in some serious miles to Lothlorien, so gentlehobbit and sandy80461 will have something to record for me each Sunday when they list the LJ "Walk to Rivendell" results. Also bought a warm, cuddly charcoal-grey fleece jacket at "Old Navy" when I was out shopping in Newmarket today, so maybe wearing it will give me inspiration to get out for a long walk today, too :).
