Hooray for the Weekend
Whew, we're two weeks into September and I'm starting to feel somewhat normal again.
The first two weeks of September are always a tough time of year for me. Getting time off in the summer is a nice perk of teaching, but the downside is that I always revert back to my nightowl tendencies- staying up late, sleeping in late. It's always a shock to the system in September when my alarm starts insisting I get up at 6:30 am again. It takes me a couple of weeks to readjust to a school schedule again. I -really- should have picked a career with night-time hours :).
I presently have 26 Gr. 5 students in my new class, which is about 5 less than last year (though that may change if new students come in). They certainly are a lively group and will keep me on my toes this year. Twelve girls and fourteen boys, so a nice even split. Right now I'm hard at work on the all the typical beginning of the year admin stuff like time tables, day plans, long-range plans, setting up student files and marking binders. Things are starting to fall into place, so that's good.
Still, hooray for the weekend, I'm glad it's here. Tonight I'm putting in a 5 mile walk, shopping at Walmart and then going to the theatre to see "American Splendor". Tomorrow I need to do some marking, walking, catching up in e-mail and a bunch of laundry. Sunday morning I'm walking in the Terry Fox Charity Run and I'll make sure I have my camera in hand for that.
Exercise log: Moving right along, trying to put in 5 mile days as steadily as I can until September 22. I'm at 416 miles right now. 42 miles away from Rivendell. Hooray for warm, crisp fall weather. This is my favorite time of year to walk.
