Flood

We had a rather vicious thunderstorm make its way across Southern Ontario today and, I swear, these thunderstorms just seem to be getting so much worse than when I was younger! I went down to hunker in the basement for awhile because the lightning just seemed too close for comfort and it's a good thing I did. It meant John and I were in the basement when we noticed our basement underground window well was getting alarmingly full of water without draining into the gravel at the bottom of the window well. Just as John started to wonder if the window could keep the water out, whoosh, the water started pouring through the bottom of the window!

So as I grabbed a bin to hold off the water, John ran outside (!) to place whatever he could find to cover the window well. He ended up soaked to the skin, but it worked. We ended up with water cascading onto the floor and shelves covered with John's various movie collectibles (luckily, we got the DVD box sets off quickly and everything else was water-proof), but we managed to stem the water coming through the window. I ran upstairs to get an armload of towels and whatever else I could find to soak up water and after the storm was over John headed to the Home Depot to get a plastic cover for the window well (strangely enough, we had been there earlier in the day for paint supplies and we had been looking at those plastic covers- think the universe was trying to tell us something...).

So the day proved a bit more eventful than we had expected.

Keep meaning to write about our trip to Tobermory. Will do that soon.
