After Playing Rapunzel's concert Deb and I had a quick dinner so we could be back on time to hear Peggi's Interfilk guest concert at 8:00. Peggi was a vision in blue with a long blue dress and embroidered shawl and she did a wonderful set of filk and folk favorites that it was impossible not to sing along with. She was backed up on guitar and percussion by Judith, Carolyn and Sally, amongst others, who did excellent accompaniment.

Deb stayed to help promote the UT DVD/I'm Bored package in the Interfilk auction (thanks, Joey, for buying it!), but I was tired and headachy, so I went to rest for an hour or two.

Unfortunately there was a breakdown in communication between Jodi and Deb and me (being in different rooms and all), so when Deb went up to take a nap, too, Jodi thought we were down for the count and decided to go to bed. Actually Deb and I were just recharging batteries to head down to the open filk, which we did do. We settled into a mellow jam-type room with the likes of Gary E., Gundo, Sue, Tom, Joey, Dave Clement, Jane and company and listened a bunch and sang a few songs before heading off to bed around 2.

Saturday open filk

Sunday morning was CANADA DAY! July 1st, yay! I happened to come across a bag of small Canada pins in my classroom while cleaning out some bins last week, so I brought them down to the hotel restaurant and passed them out to all the filkers I could find :). Joey, Rand, Erin and Jodi joined us for brunch and then UT went off to our room to practice a few songs for the Sunday open filk and to record a version of Errol and Debs' "BSG" to send to them. We had covered the song at the round robin the day before.

Jodi, Rand and Erin did a Starbucks run and brought me back a chai latte (thank you!) just as we were heading down to hear MEW and Ed in concert at 2:00. Right from MEW's opening song of "Give My Children Wings" the concert just made me fuzzily nostalgic and I remembered hearing MEW sing from my earliest days in filk when she was already an established singer. She was one of my favorite voices in filk then and she still is, though I don't get to hear her nearly as often as would wish.

The last concert of the con was given by newly-minted Filk Hall of Famer Gary Ehrlich who is always lively and fun to listen to and sing along with.

The concom took their bows and finished with a group sing of "Act of Creation" and a very successful con was done.

On the recommendation of Rand, Erin and Jodi, who had been there the night before, we went to Not Your Average Joe's for dinner. Yum yum yum. They had an amazing bread and dip appetizer, yummy cod with garlic mashed potatoes and a key lime pie that was delicious.

By the time we got back the Dead Dog Filk was in full swing, but with the room being already packed, we followed Judith's lead and settled in a room further down the hall (which quickly became packed, as the other room emptied out, but that's the way these things go :)). Good variety of songs, more cute antics by baby S, some Simon and Garfunkel by Dave, "Ladyhawk" by Joey and all was well. A nice way to end the con. I rarely get to Dead Dog filks due to scrambling home to be at school the next day, but the good thing about ConCertino starting on the very day school ended for me is that I didn't have to worry about that this time!

An early Monday breakfast and then Deb and I were off in the airport shuttle with Joey to catch our Toronto and San Francisco flights. We had one last lunch together in the airport before heading for the northlands.

ConCertino 2012

Thank you so, so much to the ConCertino concom for setting us all up for such a good time. Thanks forever again to Roberta and Jane for bailing us out of an impossible situation and offering us your room on Friday night. Thanks to Randy and Kira and Marilisa and Mich for the memory of singing with you on stage. And a hug for all our friends, who are now too far away again.

Hey! And never stop a good Canadian Invasion once you get it started! Because the Guest of Honour at next year's NEFilk, Conterpoint in Maryland, is Stone Dragons, Toronto's own Tom and Sue Jeffers!!!!!!!!!!!! And another British filker guest because Lissa Allcock is the Interfilk guest!!!! And the awesome Andrew Ross as Toastmaster and Jonathan and Debbie Baker as Listener guests! Whee, good times!
