Cross-stitch Talk
I'm pleased that just as I'm finishing up a cross-stitch gift I've been working on since March, today I came across the most wonderful pattern that I can't wait to start stitching.
The gift I'm working on was a -major- piece with lots of blended threads (two colours together), several shades of the same colours and quite large and it's taken me over four months to stitch, so I'm glad that all I have left is the back-stitching and the framing.
Today I was browsing through cross-stitch magasines in a local mall and I came across a British cross-stitch magasine, Cross-Stitch Gold, with a really cool pattern. My rule of thumb is that I usually don't buy a cross-stitch magasine unless there are at least two patterns in it I'd consider doing, but I bought this magasine for this pattern alone.
The pattern is called "Celestial Heaven" and it's a combination of Ancient Greek and astrological themes. The central design is stitched to look like a piece of parchment paper with the zodiac symbols in blues and golds. The parchment paper is juxtaposed on top of an Ancient Greece landscape. The design also includes the four elements, star signs and a stylized sky-scape. Definitely the nicest and most unique astrological piece I've seen.
It's -big-, though, 200 stitches by 300 stitches. Big enough that when it's done I think I'll try to make a wall-hanging out of it for the bedroom rather than framing it. it will take me a -long- time to do, though, thank goodness, it has no blended threads in the pattern (blended floss takes twice as long to thread on the needle). I'm going to work on white Aida even though linen is suggested, because my eyes just can't handle linen anymore. Thing is Wal-mart didn't have Aida cloth big enough for the project so I'm going to have to go searching further afield, Michaels or The Nimble Thimble. Luckily, I already have most of the floss I need.
But first of all I have to backstitch the gift piece, which will probably take another few days.
Hee hee, enough stitcher talk. But this is going to be a really fun pattern to do. I'm hoping to get it well started before heading back to school again.
Exercise log- Five miles of walking today. 320 miles on the road. Unfortunately, it's projects like cross-stitch done during my TV time that are keeping me from being faithful to my weights.
