Unbelievable
I don't think this has happened to me in all my years of teaching.
You may recall I mentioned earler in the week how my class was supposed to go to "Joseph and the Amazing Techni-Colour Dreamcoat" last Friday, but it got cancelled because of a snow day. We were very lucky that they were able to reschedule it for today and we were supposed to go this afternoon.
Except we didn't. Because we had ANOTHER snow day today. What were the odds??? So the show got cancelled again. I have no idea if the theatre will attempt to reschedule it a third time. I'm going to have to get my hands on the Donny Osmond DVD version.
And speaking of former teen idols...
I was so sad and wistful to hear about the loss of Davy Jones yesterday. He was never my One True Teen Love- that will always be David Cassidy- but I went through an obsessive Monkees phase in the early 70s when The Monkees' TV show was in early syndication. Tracked down all the music and I used to hold my little tape recorder up to the TV speakers to record the Monkee songs I couldn't find elsewhere. Heck, I still put Monkee songs onto the iPod playlists I make for us to listen to in the van (though more likely Mike songs than Davy songs). And Urban Tapestry has covered "I'm A Believer", too :).
But I swear, due to assorted tributes I haven't been able to get "Daydream Believer" or "Girl" out of head all day long.
I've seen lots of Davy Jones videos embedded in people's blogs in the last day and I thought I'd add one, too. This is a scene from "The Brady Bunch Movie" that I always thought was hilarious- Marcia bringing Davy Jones up on stage to sing at her 1990's prom- with the kids going "Who the heck?" and the moms and teachers rushing the stage :). The guy definitely had a sense of humour.
