Joseph and the Amazing Snowstorm
Last week our entire Junior division was supposed to go and see a local community stage show of "Joseph and The Amazing Techni-Colour Dreamcoat". I figured before going it would make a good media unit to do with my class, so I`went through the story of the show with them and put together packages of the lyrics so they could learn the songs. They really took to the music, too, though they surprised me with their favorite songs. I figured they'd like the upbeat songs best, but the songs they ended up always requesting were the ballads, Any Dream Will Do and Close Every Door. Go figure. They also designed Dreamcoats of their own and then painted them. They're all hanging on the wall outside our classroom. I must remember to take some photos of them while they're out there.
So the class was crazy excited for last Friday, which was the day we were SUPPOSED to go see the play. But trust winter in Canada, Friday was the first Snow Day of the year. All the school buses were cancelled and with less than half the students at school all trip buses ended up cancelled, too. No play for us. The kids were seriously disappointed- it was one Snow Day they -didn't- want. So I brought in an animated movie called "Joseph- King of Dreams" to show the Gr. 4-6 who did come to school, but, yeah, not the same. Not even the same songs, my Gr. 4's complained :).
At first it looked like re-scheduling wasn't going to be possible, and that was that, but last minute today we got a call from the theatre company saying they were going to reschedule our performance for this Thursday afternoon :). So, yay, and we're all happy and keeping an eye on the skies hoping those Ontario snows stay away.
