Pacific Crest Trail and a QUESTION

I'm currently reading a book called "AWOL on The Appalachian Trail" which is a travelogue of a hiker's experience walking that trail. Over the course of the book there have been a handful of references to hikers walking the Pacific Crest Trail, which I gather is another famous hiking trail winding from the Mexico border to the Canadian border on the west coast of the States. Interesting. My goal is to read a travelogue of that trail soon, as it's the first time I've heard of it.

So have any of you ever been to the Pacific Crest Trail? Ever walked parts of it? What's it like? (well, I gather from its length it travels through several geographic areas and it's like a lot of things).
