Last Day of Summer
School starts tomorrow, so as far as I'm concerned it's the first day of Fall. I'll be looking at 23 newly-minted Gr. 4 students. The first week is always exhausting for both them and me as we get used to regular routine again and new routines in the classroom.
And I have Yard Duty in the schoolyard first thing tomorrow morning at 8:15. Whee. Actually I have two 8:15 duties this year. Not great for a non-morning person, but the silver lining is that I'm then free of yard duty for the rest of the day.
Getting up at 6:30am again- that's always the roughest part of the first week of school, though by next week I'll be used to it again. Another habit we're changing this week is the swinging by Tim Hortons for coffee every morning habit. We bought a coffee maker we can put on timer this summer and we're going to put it to steady use starting tomorrow. Not swinging by Tim Hortons will also stop me from being tempted by the muffins and doughnuts at Tim Hortons...
And healthy habits is another trend I hope to keep up this fall following my "Healthy at 50" mantra- more fruits and veggies, junk food only on Saturdays, regular exercise. I'm still keeping up with the "Walking With Attitude" website and I'm practically finished my virtual walk of the Wicklow Way in Ireland. Also like the "Fitocracy" website that Brooke introduced me to, where you can get points and go up levels for assorted exercises. Yeah, I'm never happier than when exercise is a game. What I like about that is they have a lot of upper body exercises, which should go along nicely with the walking regime. I just have to research again good upper body exercises and how to do them.
I've lost about 12-13 pounds this year through no real concerted dieting- just trying to remember the "healthy at 50" rules and I'd like to see that trend continue.
John's continuing to do OK on the recovery trail. He has good days and bad days. On the good days I fear he may overdo it a bit and on the bad days I just hope that everything is going well. He's been very sore and tired this weekend. And I keep remembering back to the recovery of my broken wrist and remember that I would have some good progress followed by small set-backs before progressing again, so I keep reminding myself (and John) that he has to go through the same thing. But it isn't easy for either of us.
So we come to the end of a roller coaster summer. Banff was awesome. Eight days by a hospital bed were not.
Happy Fall, everyone.
