Update on John

Thanks for all the support in the last post, everyone! It's truly appreciated!

It turns out John is going to be in the hospital at least a week. After the specialist sees him tomorrow there will be a number of steps that will have to be taken to make sure the lung is functioning on its own again. Slow, but steady, and we'll both have to take it a day at a time.

Didn't sleep well last night at all, but my dad went out a bit this morning and I ended up crashing for a few more hours, which helped a lot. It's funny that I've been so focussed on how John is looking much better today than yesterday, but his first comment was that -I- looked much better than yesterday, too, and I can believe it!

My dad and I went off to the market this morning and off to the grocery store to stock me up for a few days, which is handy, since I don't drive. Then we went 'round to the hospital where we found John's sister, Diane, from Caloden, and his sister Debbie, from Kitchener, there to visit. John was very happy to see them and we had a good visit before the four of us headed to Tim Hortons for a quick bite to eat before the two of them hit the road again.

I'm going to go back to the hospital tonight for a couple of hours. John was doing well this afternoon. He was eating and animated and glad of the company. He has his phone now so he can keep in touch with me and he's rented TV service, plus the books I brought him, to keep himself amused.

If anything is lucky about this situation it's that it's still summer holidays for me and about a week before I need to get back into my classroom again, so I can focus on seeing to John at the hospital and taking care of myself as well. Also, despite not driving, the hospital is only about a twenty minute walk away so I'll get lots of good exercise this week! And hopefully tire myself out more so I sleep better!
