Weights
Trying to discipline myself to get back to my weights again.
The "Walk to Rivendell" is proving to be great for my lower body (don't care what the scale says, I'm wearing lots of long t-shirts this summer that fit much looser than they used to :)), but I need to start doing some exercises for my upper body. Time to pull out the weights faithfully.
Rand Bellavia said something at ConCertino last weekend that stuck with me. He stepped up his exercise/diet regime considerably last year and lost quite a bit of weight. He says he never allows himself to watch TV unless he's doing weights at the same time. Sounds like a good plan. Now, I'm not likely to be -that- dedicated, especially since exercise has to compete with cross-stitch as things I do during my TV time, but I like the idea of connecting weights with watching TV and making myself put in some weight time every day, maybe when I'm watching the evening news. I'm going to keep my weights beside the couch for just that reason.
Also stepped up from 3-pound weights to 5-pound weights this weekend. Whoa, do I feel the difference. Can't get anywhere near the time I was doing with the 3-pound weights, but the shorter time is more intense and I'm sure I'll build up to longer times as I go along. After two days I can sure feel the sore muscles in my arms. I am being careful, though, not pushing it too hard. I do want to discipline myself to do 15-20 minutes a night until I can do more. I also have a DVD that came with my weight kit that I need to watch again to remind me of more exercises I can do.
Exercise log: 3.5 miles of walking, taking me to 289 miles along the road, and 20 minutes of weights.
