Flood
Major flood in our main floor toilet tonight due to a second old part giving out while John was trying to replace another extremely simple part. We had water EVERYWHERE, because the part that gave out made it impossible to turn off the water where John was working. So John was struggling to re-route the water and phoning the emergency plumber at the same time and I was running around the house gathering every towel I could to stem the tide of water flowing down the hall and through the floor boards to the basement. Quite the scene and quite the mess!
And when one of the basement ceiling lights gave out near where the water came through we just had horrible visions of electrician bills and late night plumbing bills and maybe extensive repairs in the bathroom and, oh, the panic wasn't fun.
But luckily when the plumber got here it turns out the damage wasn't as bad as we first feared. The plumber was able to replace both the broken parts pretty quickly and reassure us that the blown light bulb was due to water in the light fixture and it would be fine as soon as the water was taken out and it was dry. And though we were out a couple hundred bucks, the financial damage was far less than I feared it might be.
Clean up wasn't fun, but nothing was damaged. Cats were decidedly freaked as were their people.
It's always something.
