Assorted Media Stuff
My copy of Mira Grant's "Deadline" arrived in the mail today. Whee. Sadly, it is very hard to find Mira's books in Ontario bookstores, though it is quite easy to find Seanan McGuire's books (Seanan and Mira are the same author).
I am pleased that "So You Think You Can Dance" is back for its summer run on TV. Yay. Along with "The Amazing Race", it's the only prime-time reality show I follow faithfully.
It always ticks me off when BBC America and Canada's Space channel pre-empt "Doctor Who" and put it out of synch with the British showings. They did the same thing last season. Due to it being postponed last week (in the middle of a two part episode...) we're now one week out of synch with the current episodes. Yes, I could torrent it if it really bothers me, but I was happy watching it on the Space channel. But now I have to be wary of being spoiled and what a pain.
So hot Tolkien rumour has it that Martin Freeman let it slip accidentally that Benedict Cumberbatch is cast as a character in "The Hobbit", though Jackson is still being coy which character he will be playing. That's great fun. Love Freeman and Cumberbatch in "Sherlock". It would be fun to see them with scenes together in "The Hobbit".
Finished the third book in Robert J. Sawyer's WWW trilogy this week (Wake, Watch, Wonder). I just love the rather sensible, Canadiana perspective of the social science in Sawyer's science fiction novels. Good read.
I made my student teacher's day today when I handed her over the music I want her to use in the photo slideshow she's putting together for me of my Gr. 4 students for our parent presentation next week. The three songs I went with were "Tomorrow Is Coming" by Luke Doucet, which the song my class learned for Music Monday, "Never Say Never" by Justin Beiber, because it was pretty much the soundtrack of my Gr. 4 girls this year and, on a whim, because I know my student teacher is a major Gleek, the Glee version of "Friday" :). I know, I know, but the brainless fun infectiousness of the song just can't be denied :). And we are presenting the Medieval Festival/Gr. 4 slideshow on a Friday.
