What A Difference A Season Can Make
When John and I travel from Richmond Hill to Hamilton to visit my family, as we did this last weekend for Easter, we often stop at Mount Nemo Conservation Area in Burlington to stretch our legs mid-trip. It's a nice brisk hike, not too long, and it takes you to the edge of the Niagara Escarpment with its very impressive view. It's a hike that can be done in about an hour. And since we pretty much always pass it at Easter, it's become one of our favorite starter hikes for the year.
When I hike at Nemo I always have my camera with me, though I was wondering this time around if maybe I already had enough photos of the same views and the same look-outs and the same birch trees, as nice as they are. Earlier today, though, I found myself looking at my various photos of Nemo through the years and I saw that the views take on quite a different character, depending on the time of year.
Here's a photo I took this Saturday past- Nemo in Spring. The green's starting to show and the landscape is a study in early growth and sepia tones:

We also frequently go hiking in the Halton area parks north of Burlington in July and August, so here we have Nemo in Summer. Pretty much a riot of green:

Now when we go to visit my family for Thanksgiving in early October, we often stop to see Nemo in its Autumn glory:

Nemo in winter? I'm afraid I don't have any photos of that. It would be cold, snowy, and bitter, I imagine, and though we pass it heading to Hamilton for Christmas, we tend to bypass the Ontario hiking in December :). But here's a more adventurous soul who did catch Nemo in Winter.
I'm very excited that by the end of this year I'll have photos of Banff in Summer!
