T-shirts

Spent a big part of yesterday looking for t-shirts and making t-shirts.

I walked along Yonge St. yesterday from Bloor St. to Deb's apartment down off King St. and as I was walking along it occurred to me that, being as I am going to the States this weekend, it would be fun to take a Toronto t-shirt with me. Toronto has taken a bit of a beating recently due to the SARS scare and I figured being an ambassador to our worthy city would be a good thing to do. Naturally, souvenir shops are a dime a dozen along the stretch I was walking in downtown TO, so I started looking.

It wasn't nearly as easy an idea as I had expected or maybe I was just more picky than I needed to be. Went through dozens of "$5.99" Toronto t-shirts, but didn't really find one that I liked. The only one I -did- like- a silver skyline with gold trees on a black shirt- was $20, a bit more than I had planned to put out to support my fair city :). The search continues today.

Beck at Debbie's place later that night we made t-shirts with Beckett Gladney's artwork from Urban Tapestry's new CD, "Sushi and High Tea" to wear at ConCertino this weekend. None of us had ever used transfers for dark-shaded t-shirts before and we were really excited by how vivid and colourful the designs on the t-shirts turned out and how easy they were to make. Deb printed out the design from her computer onto a transfer, we peeled the backing off the transfer, placed it on the shirt, put a sheet of wax paper on top and then ironed for about 2-3 minutes. Let the shirts cool, peeled off the wax paper and wow! We were really surprised to see the the colours on the t-shirts were even more pronounced than the colours on the transfer, so I guess they much be activated by the heat.

We made eight t-shirts during the session, one for each of us (on black, purple and maroon shirts), one sample sleeveless shirt that Deb tried earlier, a black t-shirt and a baby t-shirt to donate to ConCertino's Interfilk auction and extra black and white t-shirts to donate to future Interfilk auctions.

We were so impressed with the quality of these T's that I'm quite sure one or all of us will experiment with more t-shirt transfers in the future.

Exercise log- During my walk down Yonge St. and then to the St. Lawrence Market with Deb and Jodi I walked 5 miles. That takes me to 273 miles. Plan to clock in some more miles today continuing to look for a Toronto T.
