Melting...
It is hot in my classroom today. It is beyond hot, it is a sauna. There's a fan running in the back; it's not making a speck of difference. The four teachers up here on the second floor keep taking their classes and escaping to the library, to the music room, anywhere air-conditioned. But being year-end there's all kinds of organizational stuff to be done, so we can't stray too far away from the classroom.
The kids are having their class party for year end this afternoon, so my set-up crew will be back in here again at any minute. Once the food and drink are set up I'm escaping to air-conditioning while my French teacher supervises for the first 40 minutes. I'll come back up to the sauna and take over after that.
I'm desperately trying to get everything sorted and put away or thrown away or send home with the kids. Trying to organize reports and get them signed and get them photocopied and stuffed in envelopes. Trying to finish student records and sign them off and add copies of all three reports to their files. Trying to set up files for next year. And doing all this in awful heat.
Some people say students should go to school right through the summer, too. If the government ever goes that route first thing they'd have to do is provide air-conditioning for every classroom in Ontario. There is no way kids can even think, much less work, under the conditions we're dealing with this week. Can't wait for the end of the day.
