Listens: The WKRP theme (thanks, Terence...)

Things are very Harry Potter in my classroom these days. The kids have finished the novel and are now counting down to our movie field trip on Friday. We're doing lots of movie-oriented stuff this week to get them in that frame of mind. I'm having them design a costume for Prof. Lockhart, write a script of a favorite scene and then act it out, make a set design using descriptions from the book and then build a mini-set. Must remember to bring my digital camera in tomorrow to record all the little Quidditch pitches that are springing up in set boxes around my room.

Famous Players are still giving my principal and me grief, but the trip is still on and that's what counts three days from Friday. They now have us booked into the first public showing at 11:30, though earlier today they weren't promising to seat us together. Yeah, like I'm going to take 60 ten-year-olds to a public theatre on opening day of Harry Potter without a guarantee they're all sitting with -me-. Sigh. But looks like thngs will work out (Allison says optimistically...).

And, of course, being the Tolkienite that I am, there is only one event today. New DVDs of the extended version of "Fellowship of the Ring" are sitting on store shelves even as I type this here in my classroom! In less than an hour John picks me up, we hit Future Shop to buy the DVD, swing by our favorite Chinese take-out place to pick up dinner and then burrow down in the living room with a quilt and a pot of tea for several hours of Middle-earth bliss. Can't wait.
