Sprained Finger :-/

Oh, dear, I suffered my first hiking injury today :-/.

John and I were hiking the trails at Belfountain Conservation Area. We had already gone beyond the borders of the park and were hiking trails beyond that considering going as far as the Forks of the Credit River before turning back. We came across a side trail called Crowsnest Loop that was an extra kilometre and decided to detour along it ("crowsnest" sounds like it should have taken us to some cool look-out, right?). The loop was pretty, but unremarkable. Like a lot of the trails today it was extremely muddy and slippery. Clearly it had rained a lot there this week and the trees provide enough cover so that the trails don't dry out quickly.

Just as we were coming off the loop and heading back to the main trail my foot slipped on a piece of wet bark and I tumbled my way down several feet, smacking my shin and twisting my finger. My leg isn't much the worst for wear and walking the 3 km. back to the van wasn't too arduous, but my finger came off worse. It's still very sore and tender and I have to be extremely careful with it. Luckily, I can still type (!), since I'll be spending most of this week writing report cards.

So, I'll need to nurse my hand for a few days, but I'm glad the shin is OK so I can continue walking. I'm on a roll and I want to keep going. The four miles today took me to 175 miles, which means I got to go over to the main "Walk To Rivendell" website and claim my seventh 25 mile reward shield. Yay.

And how can I follow in Frodo's footsteps from Hobbiton to Rivendell without getting injured -somewhere- along the way? Sigh.
