Q107 Cage Match
John and I have been driving around doing stuff in the van for most of the weekend, so we've been listening to Q107 on the radio a bunch. Q107 is a Toronto radio station that specializes in "classic rock", particularly rock of the 60's and 70's. It's one area of music where John and my tastes overlap, so it's a good compromise station for listening to in the van.
This weekend was Q107's fifth annual ultimate cage match challenge. Each night Q107 takes two classic rock songs and pits them against each other with listeners calling in to vote for their favorite of the two. If a song wins five nights in a row it goes to "Cage Heaven", meaning it moves on to the ultimate Cage Match Challenge. On the Cage Match weekend they start to pit the songs against each other and they continue to narrow down the competition until there is finally only one Cage Match Champion.
It's all pretty silly and the songs they match against each other often have nothing in common whatsoever, but as you listen to the challenges narrow down you can't help but start to cheer on your favorites. By the time John and I got home from our latest hiking trip an hour ago the Cage Match was narrowed down to four songs. They are:
Kashmir by Led Zeppelin
Shine On, You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd
Hey Jude by The Beatles
Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin
I'd be curious to know which of these final four songs you would vote for and which one you thought won :). Tomorrow, once I've heard, I'll tell you who won and which song I would have voted for.
