New TV

Yay, new TV shows to watch again.

Let's see, what have I seen so far? Saw the first episode of the new Kelsey Grammer series, "Back to You". I liked it enough that I'll be checking it out again tonight. Like Bob Newhart, Kelsey Grammer has developed enough sitcom cred to always deserve to be given a few weeks in a new series.

I'm chagrined to say after that I did check out the second half of the first episode of "Kid Nation" to see what all the fuss was about. I can see why kids especially might like the show, but I likely won't be watching it anymore.

There's a whole slew of "geek guy" shows debuting this year and you've got to figure they can't all survive. One or two might jostle their way out of the pack. Watched "Chuck" on Monday and just felt myself checking off the geek cliches one by one as I watched. I may give it one or two more episodes, not sure about it yet.

"Heroes" was a must-see and I'm very happy to have it back again, being that most of my other favorite shows ("Lost", "Battlestar Galactica", "Doctor Who") don't come back again until 2008. The first ep hooked me in right away and I'm patient enough to give the show a few weeks to fill in all the obvious questions left hanging from the four month gap between seasons. In true "Heroes" fashion, though, they are -already- killing off characters that I like :-/. Fingers crossed, though- not everyone seemingly dead on "Heroes" stays dead...

I taped "Journeyman" on Monday night, but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Early word-of-mouth reviews haven't been great...

We watched "Reaper" last night. In the "geek guy" genre, both John and I agreed we preferred it to "Chuck", though as much as I like the devil character I haven't decided yet if the "Jack Black sidekick" could really annoy me or be funny and refreshing. The next week or two will tell.

"Ugly Betty" comes back tomorrow night. Yay. Must admit I became quite hooked on Betty last year. The series is just adacious and funny and romantic and surprisingly emotional and it's season finale packed more of a wallop on me than any other season finale I saw last spring (except possibly "Lost").

Obviously I won't be sticking with all these shows, though it is fun to sample a bunch of them at this time of year. We'll see which ones become keepers.

Have you sampled any of the new shows or returning shows this fall? What have you thought? Any to recommend to me?
