Back to School
The first day is over and all is well. My new Gr. 5's seem like a nice group of kids, though I can't get used to the fact there are so few of them! Last year I had 27 students and right now I have 20. A few more may show up as the week goes on, though. I have them working on summer writing posters and time capsules and we launched right into the math program. Also pulled out the guitar at the end of the day and we did some singing (I taught them "Apples and Bananas").
-Very- tired right now, but I'm going to push myself all week not to nap after school so I can get back into regulated hours again. I'm sure I'm going to crash hard shortly after ten.
So, people keep telling me how much they've enjoyed the Toronto production of "We Will Rock You" and I got a $50 a ticket promotional flyer in the mail today, so I think I'm going to break down and buy tickets for November. I'm annoyed, though, that the Internet ticket form doesn't seem to be allowing me to buy the $50 tickets.
I'm hoping I have enough energy left by the weekend to do some fall hiking. If nothing else, my new camera needs it's first major workout so I can start to bond with it. The newspaper has published its annual autumn leaf routes in Ontario (yay!) and we'll probably go further north at the end of September to look at leaves- probably to the Haliburton area. We'll probably just make it a day trip this year due to the trip to Rochester I'll be making with Urban Tapestry the week before and family visits for Thanksgiving the week after.
Except for this exhausting transition between summer and school, I love autumn. Must find myself an autumn LJ icon.
