Chasing Waterfalls

Inglis Falls

John and I couldn't make any major plans for hiking trips this summer because our cat, Nova, is presently on a thyroid medication that she has to take every morning. That has tethered us pretty close to home and we had to postpone the trip to the Adirondacks which I had been excitedly researching earlier in the year. *sniff*

Since we can't go away on a five day trip to New York, though, we're aiming to split our hiking trip time up into two smaller trips, instead, where we'll just be away overnight one night, two at most. We're going to do the first of them next week. On our way home from Tobermory and Flowerpot Island last year, we stopped briefly at "Inglis Falls Conservation Park" near Owen Sound (see photo). Wonderful waterfall, and the hiking trails looked really inviting, but we were too tired from three previous days of hiking to do much more than snap a few shots of the waterfall and then keep heading for home.

We've decided we'll make up for that this summer. The area around Owen Sound is littered with conservation areas and waterfall parks that we've never been to before, so we thought we'd book a hotel in Owen Sound for two days and go exploring waterfalls.

We have four waterfall parks right now that we've picked out to go and check out, though the schedule may change as I continue my research. There's Eugenia Falls, which we'll find on our drive between Richmond Hill and Owen Sound. Then, clustered right close to Owen Sound there's not only Inglis Falls, but also Jones Falls in Pottawatomi Conservation Area and Indian Falls, just north of the city. They are all tucked so tightly together that we should easily be able to get to all them in two days.

Yay, the anticipation makes me happy and comforts me some from losing the longer Adirondack trip this summer. We may also take a short trip to the Thousand Islands near Kingston later in the summer and a few weeks from now we're planning to go with my Dad up to Penetanguishene to check out Discovery Harbour.
