Canada Day Weekend
A happy belated Canada Day to all my fellow Canadians out there! As you can see from the photo here, John also shared a birthday with Canada on July 1st.
I finished up school for the year on Friday and then we hit the road on Saturday to catch up on some visiting. We started by visiting my parents in Hamilton where we celebrated John's birthday and ate barbeque and had a fine time. Sunday morning we took a walk through the "It's Your Day" festival in Gage Park before leaving Hamilton for John's sister's place in Caledon.
We joined a bunch of John's family for a Canada Day barbeque where we celebrated John's birthday again with cake and cards. We also watched a video my niece's teacher made of the trip their band/choir made to the special memorial serivces at Vimy Ridge to rededicate the monument there back in April. What an amazing trip for a girl in Gr. 9!
We travelled back to Richmond Hill after that where I stayed up way too late watching the transitional episodes from season 2 to season 3 of "Blake's 7", which surprised me yet again and which I'll write about more when I'm further into season 3. Also saw the third season finale of "Doctor Who", which was in parts as powerful and as goofy as I expect episodes of "Doctor Who" to be. Interesting to read all the opinions on-line here! Clearly the episode struck a nerve :). And after three finale episodes with a certain old friend I think I may go back and give "Torchwood" another look, which I haven't seen beyond the third episode, once I'm finished with "Blake's 7".
Today John and I went downtown for dinner with my sister, Sheilagh, so we could celebrate both John and Sheilagh's birthdays, which are a week apart. We also went to see "Ratatouille" and I will simply say that Brad Bird and Pixar still rock. Huge fun and amazing animation.
And in honour of the occasion I've been inspired to look up how to make ratatouille in my crockpot and I'm going to cook my first batch tomorrow.
