Contemplating a Laptop
All year I've been saying that I would probably buy my first laptop at the end of June to give me some time to play and experiment with it before using it as an essential teaching tool in September. And here we are now at the end of June. I've been spending a lot of time in laptop computer departments at several different electronics stores checking out different models, using different keyboards, testing the machines for weight and then going home and researching on-line, reading specs and reviews, narrowing down my choices.
At this point I am looking seriously at a Sony VAIO VGN-C140. It seems to be right in my price range, small enough to be handily portable, attractive- I like the black with the copper trim, seems to have everything in it that I need and I seem to be naturally attracted to it each time I check out laptops these days. The reviews seem to say it's good.
I find reading laptop reviews on-line, though, can drive you slightly crazy, as every model and design has its pros and cons and every reviewer has his/her biases concerning model and company. I figure eventually you just have to take that leap of faith and buy and hope for the best. But right now I'm still plenty nervous about doing that :).
Anyone out there have a VAIO or know anyone who does? I'm starting to think if I work up my nerve I may go out and buy one within the next week or so.
