Empty Desks and Another "Blake's 7" Comment
I'm sitting here looking at a classroom of empty desks- the kids are gone for the summer. Got my new class list for September today. It's lovely and small (compared to this year), but will likely get a bit bigger by September. Just spent the last hour with the rest of the staff haggling over yard duty positions for next year. We do it like a hockey pool roster, you each get four stickies and in rotation you keep sticking them up on the schedule until they're all gone. Yard duties loom large in a teacher's year. We're going to have to be in those places for ten months running in sun, rain and snow, so the organization of the schedule can be intense. Ditto for the gym schedule to select your two weekly gym periods for next year, which we did today, too.
It's still terribly hot up here today. The rain didn't do much to cool things off. After this short break for blogging and lunch I have to start emptying out all my shelves, desk drawers, etc.. There's a year-end party at one of the teacher's houses tonight, so that will be fun.
Good Lord, in the episode I watched before leaving for school this morning (series 2, episode 5? 6?) they killed off Gan! I -so- did not see that coming and I'm still in denial. I mean, I've been tipped off that Blake will be gone after series 2 (and I assume dead, though I have no idea of the circumstances of him leaving the show yet, as I'm less than halfway through series 2), so I've focussed most of my speculation there as I watch series 2, assuming all the other characters except Blake would likely be safe for the four season run of the series. Seems I'm wrong. Ah, Gan! That's just sad.
So now I'm thinking both Gan and Blake will be dead by the end of series 2, so I have to assume they've got to pick up characters along the way before series 3 or Blake's 7 is gonna be Blake's 5 (which -could- happen, I suppose, but I figure they need a few more characters to bounce scripts off of). I'm also curious who would take over for Blake as leader and assume it will be Avon, though that will be a strange development and I'm also going to miss the Blake and Avon interaction. I'm also aware they've left a clone of Blake on some planet at the end of one of the early series 2 episodes with no resolution, which is just kinda creepy, especially if the real Blake dies at the end of series 2 and I can't help but be intrigued, too, that the final episode of series 4 and the entire series is called "Blake". So, yeah, I've been doing lots of speculation and I'm looking forward to pushing through to at least the beginning of series 3 quickly to start to get some of the answers. I'm sure now this series is going to keep me intrigued and fascinated this summer at least until... oh... the seventh Harry Potter book comes out :).
And I'm sure all the "Blake's 7" watchers (all, oh, three or four of you on my friend list :)) are laughing at me nattering and speculating above, so feel free to comment below without spoiling me beyond the early series 2 episode where they killed off Gan (still majorly shocked about that!).
