TV Observations
Just finished watching tonight's "Heroes". Whoa, "Heroes" really has become the must-see-TV of this season- I don't think there's been an episode that's let me down yet. It's probably the only show this season, too, that I watch the trailers and turn to John saying, "SEVEN DAYS? We have to wait SEVEN DAYS to find out what happens next??". A varied and edgy bunch of characters, nifty cameos (check out Stan Lee tonight!), twists that keep you guessing and enough mystery answered each given episode to keep one satisfied that the show has a plan and a destination. Tonight was good, but it looks like next week may be even better with lots of background and reveals and an episode not to miss.
Speaking of mystery and twists and strangeness, I'm about eight episodes into "The Prisoner" now and I'm enjoying it hugely. It's highly addictive! Despite all those warnings of the show not making sense, I'm finding the basic premise pretty easy to follow, with just a handful of central mysteries that will hopefully be solved (or not be solved!) by the end of the seventeen episodes. I'm finding the writing hugely fun and convoluted, with surreal mind games set up each episode that usually untangle themselves in satisfying ways by the closing frames and make you immediately want to launch into the next episode. Just love the whole trippy, mega-60's, melodramatic, surreal and exaggerated Britishness of it all. I'm quite hooked! I have a few theories of where things may be heading, but I'm working hard to avoid spoilers and I imagine I'll get through the rest of the episodes by next weekend and I'm very curious to see where it will all end up. I will write up a more detailed post on my impressions of the series as a whole then.
