An Unexpected Engagement Filk :)
I had a wonderful time at Phil and Jane's Toronto housefilk yesterday and it was lots of fun to sing and catch up with people. Without a doubt the highlight of the day was finding out that Sue Postero and Tom Jeffers are now engaged! Tom proposed to Sue on one knee inside the stones of Stonehenge when they were in England earlier in the month. Isn't that the most romantic thing ever? Hopefully either Tom or Sue will tell that whole story in LJ soon, because it's lots of fun. Note their lovely engagement rings in the photo here, too. They kind of look like Stonehenge stones, don't they?
There were lots of locals at the filk and lots of good songs. I will admit, having been raised in 20+ years of "chaos filk" tradition here in Toronto, I'm not that crazy about the new trend toward "bardic filk" at housefilks recently, but other folk seem to like it and I can understand the reasons why, and I'm sure it will continue to inspire discussion in the local community as time goes on. Debbie was at the housefilk yesterday, too, and she has an interesting discussion of the pros and cons of various forms of bardic circles in her housefilk report here. Still, it was fun to see how creative everyone could get in finding even the most tenuous of connectors for the song they wanted to sing next in the song sequitor circle :).

Thank you, Phil and Jane, for hosting us all!!!

Here's a photo of the happy couple shortly after I learned they had become engaged while in England! Note that Tom is wearing one of the cool t-shirts he got while he was over there. Also don't miss the gorgeous photo of Sue and Tom standing at Stonehenge after their engagement that Deb has in her LJ post here.

Our host, Phil, sings for us after dinner. Phil writes such creative and wonderful songs! It was fun to hear both Phil and Jane sing them.

Ken recites as Peggi crochets. It was fascinating to watch Peggi crochet throughout the filk. I told her I thought the neon orange yarn she was using totally rocked :). She told me she was making strips of crochet to attach together into blankets for a group called "Covers for Canada", a group that makes blankets for homeless people.

Judith, Sue and Marah pour the champagne that Tom and Sue brought with them so the local filk community could toast their engagement.
