Edoras
I promised myself after we got moved I would indulge myself with one frivolous treat. Here's what I bought: http://www.theonering.net/perl/newsview/8/1047067569
I've never been a huge fan of 2-D puzzles, but when the 3-D Puzzs first came out a few years back I found they were rather fun and challenging. John's mother gave him a 3-D Puzz of The Titanic for Christmas one year and we built it together. It was surprisingly satisfying.
About a year ago I bought a 3-D Puzz cuckoo clock on a whim. I really enjoyed piecing it together and it hung in the townhouse up until the time we moved. After the cuckoo clock I bought a 3-D Puzz grandfather clock which was also fun to build. It ended up gathering dust in a corner, though, as it never quite fit together properly, and we ended up throwing it away when we moved.
Those two projects seemed to satisfy the itch, though. I never was tempted by any of the 3-D Puzz buildings because I figured they weren't useful (like the clocks :)) and I'd have nowhere to put them.
It seems the 3-D folk just hadn't found a building yet that would truly, truly tempt me :).
When I saw "The Two Towers" for the first time in December I fell completely in love with the land of Rohan- the characters, the horses, the landscapes, the music, the buildings. It stirred something in my blood- it was probably the Norse/Celtic atmosphere about Rohan. And of all the sets in the two LOTR movies to date, one of my very favorite is The Golden Hall of Edoras, the palace of Theoden King (the other is Rivendell, but there is no 3-D Puzz Rivendell :)).
Anyway, the first time I saw the 3-D Puzz of Edoras, I knew it was meant to be. Now, there was no point in buying it at the townhouse (I first saw it in December) as I would only half-finish it and have to transport it over here to the much smaller apartment. So, I promised myself that if I still wanted it once I moved here I could buy it.
When I saw the pictures theonering.net posted last week I posted my Internet order right away. Edoras would not be denied.
Looking around my new office here I was pleased to see I'll even have good places to display the finished building- either on top of the wooden TV console or on the spare desk in the corner.
Got a mail card today telling me I can go pick it up tomorrow. Cool.
Where is the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? I'm just a daughter of Rohan at heart :).
Exercise log- Went for a very long walk today and John even came with me. We made two side trips to the GO station and the supermarket so the walk took 90 minutes. Whee. Only two more one hour walks to complete the Idita-walk challenge. The temperature soars up to 10 degrees this Saturday- seems the perfect day to make the finishing victory lap.
