Moved
Well, sort of. We're now living in the new apartment, but we still have lots of stuff left to move over from the townhouse. Busy, busy weekend. We managed to move over all the big pieces of furniture with the van- bed, sofa, shelving units, desks, computers. We have the cable for the TV and computers up and running, but we're having problems with the phone connection which will hopefully be fixed today.
Still packing up at the old place and doing bunches of laundry (trying to avoid using communal laundry until I can buy a new washer/dryer next week). It's still amazing how much we're throwing out as garbage and how much is going to Goodwill. Looks like we'll be able to store everything without having to rent extra storage space after all. We've decided the second bedroom will be a combination of my office (the front half) and storage space (the back half).
Having lived in the apartment for two days I'm surprised that I don't find it small or cramped. Instead it feels cozy, it feels like it has tons of potential and I'm looking forward to decorating, starting almost immediately. We bought and put up curtains yesterday in the living room and the bedroom and I'm itching to start renovations in the bathroom.
The apartment bathroom is amazingly ugly :O. It has a nice blue/gray mosaic tiled floor, but that's where good taste ends. The tiles are pink with orange butterfly tiles sprinkled haphazardly throughout the bathroom. At some point someone attempted to paint the tiles and grout crimson in some parts and green in others. The towel rack is broken and there isn't nearly enough storage space. That room is number one on my renovation hit-list.
We're going to paint all the tiling sections blue and the walls light slate gray to match the floor. We'll replace the towel rack and hang up a shelving unit. The sooner, the better. Probably next week, once we have everything fully moved in.
I really like the wood floors here. It makes me realize that one of the reasons I never really bonded with the last townhouse was because the whole house was beige carpeting and white walls. The wood floors and light peach walls makes this place feel warmer. We plan to paint the living/dining area pale green in the next few months, but I'm going to leave the peach in the bedroom.
No doubt you'll all get tired of me talking about renovations in the next several months, but I find it encouraging that I'm so keen to decorate this small place when I never had any desire to decorate at the last townhouse. It suggests to me that spiritually we're moving in the right direction :).
