Three things that have driven me to tears as I watched CNN this afternoon:

The replay of Rick Husband's tribute to the astronauts of Apollo and Challenger last week on the anniversary of their sacrifices.

Learning that Christa McAuliffe's back-up, Barbara Morgan, was to re-initiate the "teacher in space" program on Columbia's next flight next November.

Watching the tourists at the Kennedy Space Centre as they watched the NASA press conference at 1:00- seeing children standing there with their knapsacks, seeing a younger child on his father's shoulders as his mother whispers brief explanations to him, everyone silently listening around the TV screen. I remember how excited I was the day John and I went to the Kennedy Space Centre back in 1991 and what a different experience today has proved to be for those tourists.

But despite other fears that I've read here today I truly do believe the space shuttle program will regroup, discover what happened, learn and change what it must and continue.

Though it's hard to look beyond immediate emotions this afternoon to see quite that far ahead yet.
