Oscars Out of Touch?
So, one sketch that kind of caught my imagination on the Oscars last night was when Chris Rock went to the average movie theatre to talk to people about movies they had seen, what their favorite movie of the year was, etc.. And, of course, the answer of average people was totally different from the opinions of the Academy (or at least in the way the clip was edited).
So, it made me curious, how many of the five Best Picture nominees did you see this year (the movies were The Aviator, Ray, Million Dollar Baby, Finding Neverland and Sideways)? If you saw any of them, why did you see them? (good reviews, word of mouth, reputations of the actor/director/writer involved, a whim) What was your favorite movie of last year?
My answers: I saw The Aviator, Ray and Finding Neverland. Saw Finding Neverland because of Johnny Depp and the Peter Pan theme. Saw The Aviator because of good movie reviews. Saw Ray on DVD because of Oscar buzz. My favorite movie of last year was "Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind" and I'm still baffled the Academy ignored it the way it did.
