Oscar Wrap-Up

Out of my 19 Oscar predictions last week I got 13 right.

I missed on Best Picture and Best Director, but I would have still preferred to see "The Aviator" and Scorsese win. To be fair, I haven't seen "Million Dollar Baby", but to be honest, nothing I've heard about it makes me all that keen to see it.

Predicted three of the four major acting awards right, and I was happy to be wrong when Morgan Freeman took his award.

Got both of the writing awards right and was extremely happy to see "Eternal Sunshine" given its due in one category, at least.

Got one of the two music awards, getting score correct, but not song. Found all the song performances last night less than inspiring, though the Counting Crows had the advantage of at least being different.

Was amused to see "Edna" presenting the Costuming award. Got that one right, too.

I did pretty well on the tech awards, being that "The Aviator" took most of them and that's the way I predicted. Laughed when the winning Visual guy for "Spider-man 2" said he was glad there was no fourth "Lord of The Rings" movie this year. That guy better watch his back as WETA will be back with a vengeance next year. In fact, with both "King Kong" and Narnia" coming out this year, WETA may well be up against itself in several categories next year.

Was glad the Canadians took the Animated Short Subject Oscar. I'm sure there was quite a party here at Seneca Collage in Toronto last night (where the film was made).

And that's that.
