Boskone
I'm flying to Boston this weekend. It will be my first trip there and I'm looking forward to it a lot. Urban Tapestry are the Filk Guest of Honour at Boskone, Boston's science fiction convention, so we thank Gary McGath and the other area filkers who are making our visit possible! Debbie and Jodi are winging into the con on Thursday afternoon and, to accommodate my teaching schedule, I'll be following on Friday morning.
Deb, Jodi and I will be involved in six panels at the con. On Friday we'll be involved in an "Intro to Filk" panel, as well as a panel discussion about the TV series "Firefly" (which we all like a lot). Our GoH concert is on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.. On Sunday morning we have a children's concert and then we'll be participating in a theme filk and an Instrumental panel in the afternoon. We're also singing one song with
gorgeousgary in his concert and we'll be participating in a bunch of open filking.
Really looking forward to hanging out with the east-coast filkers again! Also looking forward to seeingjewelsong, who I first met at "The Gathering of The Fellowship" and who writes and sings cool Tolkien songs. Also interested in meeting MaryAnn Johanson, who runs one of my favorite movie review sites on the web, "The Flick Filosopher" at http://www.flickfilosopher.com/flickfilos/index.shtml . She'll be moderating the "Firefly" panel Deb, Jodi and I are on.
Boskone will be an adventure, too, because it's a con I've never been to before. It's always fun to observe the dynamic and traditions of an unfamiliar con, check out the events, see what makes it tick. And it's always fun to check out a new dealer's room, so I'm bringing a bit of extra money with me :).
