Richmond Hill Housefilk
I had a great time yesterday at the local housefilk at
smoooom's new home in Richmond Hill. Quite a hopping occasion and I don't think we could have fit many more people into Heather's sizeable living room! The housefilks in the Toronto area have just exploded in the last few months with many new people coming out and a good selection of music. We played many old filk favorites, did a medley of Beatle tunes (led by Freddy and Bob) and heard some new songs, too. Several newcomers were at the filk, including
missquirt, who I was astonished to learn was attending her very first housefilk. It seems I've known Lyanne so long that I was sure I must have seen her at housefilks in the past, but I guess not!
Lots of catching up, of course, and lots of snacking. We laugh that one of the good results of the median age of our area filkers becoming older is that we tend to bring healthier snacks, lots of veggies, hummus, pitas, dips, mmmmm. And the occasional bag of mini-chocolate chip cookies and Bugles. We also ordered dinner out at Swiss Chalet, which is becoming traditional for the Thornhill/Richmond Hill filks.
Next housefilk will also be in a new location, at Sue's place up in Newmarket. October is going to be a crazy busy month, but I hope to get there.
First day of school tomorrow. I'll be facing my twentieth grade school classroom. Wish me luck!
