A Few More Pern Observations
Request- Please watch spoilers for "Dragondrums" in any responses. I've only read one chapter so far.
- So imagine my surprise when Menolly made that walk across the room to become a Journeyman seven days after arriving at the Harper Hall :). How many chapters before the gal becomes the Master Harper? ;)
- I must admit I never really did take to Piemur in "Dragonsinger". Rather like the firelizards, he was too precocious for my taste. Imagine my chagrin, then, when I picked up "Dragondrums" this morning and read the back and discovered this entire third book is about him. Sigh, when I first looked at the picture on the cover of "Dragondrums" earlier in the week (avoiding the blurb on the back for fear of "Dragonsinger" spoilers) I figured that young male harper with the golden firelizard on the cover was likely Sebell. I rather liked Sebell in "Dragonsinger". I thought maybe "Dragondrums" would be about an adventure of his being placed as a Harper in one of the other Holds or something. That could have been fun, but it seems not. Well, I now know Piemur will have his much coveted golden firelizard by the end of this third book (it says so in the blurb, too).
- Still, I won't judge the book until I've read it. Maybe Piemur will be a bit less precocious now that he's older. It is an interesting early twist that his voice has changed and he now has to find a new musical path until his adult voice either does (or doesn't) develop. Though at the rate these books are going, I gotta figure the kid will be singing glorious arias again by the final chapters.
Tsk, I'm becoming so cynical :). Off to read again.
