Opening Ceremonies
Anyone else going to watch the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics in Greece today? I must admit I do like the ritual of it all- raising the flag, lighting the flame, the parade of athletes (Canada will march in 73rd of 202 countries :)), all the pageantry. And it will be cool to see it all taking place in the home of the first modern games.
I've never managed to get completely cynical about the Olympic Games, despite the commercialism, despite the influx of professional athletes, despite the drug use, despite the politics. There's still a lot to fascinate and inspire, human drama to unfold, controversy to intrigue and, hey, when else are people likely to watch sports like synchronized swimming into the wee hours of the morning?
