We believe that principles, values, and a sense of virtue shall guide what we say and do, and words must be followed by actions. How can we build communities and promote a world that is better, stronger, and more vibrant? We are concerned about the growing divide between people, communities, and countries. We propose to ask and seek answers to the questions about what is dividing us and build trust between ethnic, religious, and other demographic groups. Building trust will lead to building community, and our initial focus is on improving relationships between the African-American and Jewish communities. That is our vision.<\/p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n TheALLIANCE uses a 'hub and spoke' approach to fulfill its mission. At our core are a set of principles and values shared by the Children of Abraham, which guide our daily lives and promote harmony in our universe. TheALLIANCE develops, supports, and\/or manages certain projects consistent with our core principles, representing spokes surrounding the 'hub'. Most importantly, this hub sits atop a comprehensive communications platform that informs, teaches, and advocates for these principles and values. We will seek to engage in constructive conversation and respectful dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Our mission is comprised of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n 1. Improving Black-Jewish Relationships<\/strong><\/em>. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. taught that people should judge, and be judged, \"based on the content of their character, not the color of their skin\"<\/em>. We need to refocus on these principles in general, but particularly around relationships between African-Americans and Jews. Our focus is on the twin evils of racism and anti-Semitism. We passionately resist all forms of racism, and confront anti-Semitism from all its sources, which are three: the far right, the far left, and Jihadism. We work with youth, college age, young professionals, and adult communities on programs that involve reading, study, dialogue, travel, and social programming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2. Building Trust<\/strong><\/em>. The work of TheALLIANCE is predicated on trust. A lack of trust is the silent killer of efforts to build community. There are basic principles of trust and methods for building trust, including to approach people with an open heart and an open mind, engaging in respectful dialogue with a goal of understanding and clarity (which is more important than agreement), and telling the truth. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts. TheALLIANCE will build and share its methodologies for building trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 3. Building Community<\/strong><\/em>. At a critically important inflexion point in our country's history, our ability to engage in constructive discourse is regrettably low. This must change. It is OK to disagree on specific positions, policies, or actions, as long as we maintain mutual respect and friendship that is built upon trust. If we trust, we will be able to respectfully disagree and at the same time continue to build community based on shared principles and values. TheALLIANCE will lead the effort in \"Building Community By Building Trust\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n TheALLIANCE approach embodies principles which include promoting civility, tolerance, truth, constructive and respectful dialogue, equality of opportunity, and faith. In the longer term, we expect to develop Alliance initiatives with Hispanic, Asian, Muslim, and other communities. We hope that new initiatives (the spokes) will be adopted in the future as the concept of TheALLIANCE evolves.
