5:37 pm - 2020 (a Merlin fic)

So I wasn't a huge fan of the way the show ended, but the story itself still stayed with me, and inspired me to the following piece.
A follow-up is entirely possible, though I'm not sure about it yet.
Fic summary:
Dystopian Arthur-Merlin reunion fic, not an AU. In 2020, the world has just about recovered from the global financial crisis. Its leaders, determined that nothing like this will happen again, have taken what they deem the necessary precautions. Arthur has been reincarnated but doesn't remember who he was, Merlin is a cynical old recluse living in a cottage on a hill somewhere in Wales. One day, someone else comes along and makes the link.

I wrote a poem in English the other day while listening to a fellow classical singer and thought I'd post it here. Imagine it, if you will, sung in a jaunty Tom-Lehrer-like way (which would also take care of its metric, ahem, irregularities).

About redscharlach too much good cannot be said
So I couldn't possibly do her justice (and I also want to do other things before I'm dead)
However, since it's her birthday
(While trying to avoid turning it into an how-much-is-she-worth-day)
I shall say that she is one of the cleverest, funniest, and cutest people I know
And I count myself among this group so I can assure you it is so.
She deserves only the benedictest of cumberbatches and the zachariest of quintoes
And the highest possible number of nicely chilled gin-to's
And why not just make her officially Queen
She rules, what do you do? And she's nearly fourteen
So it should be allowed
And now it only remains for me to sound three cheers for my Auntie - hip hip HOORA ect - and retreat into her adoring crowd.

I wonder whether you all know the poetic genius that is Tom Waits? His growl-like singing and his crazy playing are great enough, but I think his broken lyrics are what goes right to my heart.

6:53 pm - The trouble with being an idiot (Merlin fic)

Oh my God, I've written a fanfic. It's been a long, long time. The last one was a Harry Potter fic. Hmmm, can anyone see a connection with Merlin? I can't... Oh, and this is officially the first time I have written something romantic. Not that I haven't tried before, but, well, you can guess the imperative word in that sentence.

redscharlach, I have been watching Merlin and I like it! I mean, it's full of teenage I-am-so-misunderstood angst, and "Gwen"'s Australian Question Intonation annoys me, like, so much? But other than that it's very nice entertainment. The problem is that I keep seeing a gas mask pop out of Gaius's head...
Also, I still don't know whether I am going away this week. *outcry* But at least I'm making as much as I can of my holiday, hem hem... off to watch another episode of Kingdom, I think.

Germany played a really embarrassing game last night, kept losing ball possession in ridiculous ways. But we got lucky in the end. And no Turkish Berliners got slaughtered, which is a Good Thing.
So we play either Spain or Russia on Sunday. None of us (ie. the entirety of Jurmans) have much hope, but as a reporter said last night "the German team has shown itself to be very changeable, both in the positive and negative sense"...
In other news, I can't read my flist these days because even cuts that say "pretty huge spoiler about one character" spoil me, in a way.

Made it to the semi-finals! A fantastic game against Portugal that ended 3:2.
We really, really need a song, though. All we ever do is this shout our country`s name. Boring!
Tomorrow Turkey is playing Croatia, and then we play the winner next week. On the one hand, I really hope Turkey makes the semi-finals. On the other hand, blimey, there´s going to be a bloodbath here in Berlin if they do...
