- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI learned a lot from the Pocket Pilot by Amanda Otis. There are many facts in this book that I must learn to take my Part 107 test. But the book also includes tips and tricks for flying a drone legally, safely, and avoiding conditions that cause crashes. At the end of the book, there are many links to drone resources, including study materials, courses, maps, and checklists. I recommend this book to anyone who owns a drone or is considering purchasing one. In either case, this is information a drone pilot must know.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseGoes over the rules, including things that I didn't know about, such as the maximum altitude of 400 feet. Includes a very helpful pre-flight checklist that can be printed, laminated, and taken out into the field. The one thing I felt was missing was help on mastering the actual controlling of the drone - such a simple flight exercises or tricks to improve coordination. Also, there is some empty "notes" pages as filler.
Still a useful and otherwise helpful book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseJust got my first drone and this pocket book has been super helpful. It explains the basics in simple terms—how to fly, what the controls do, safety rules you need to know. The pre-flight checklist keeps me from forgetting important stuff, and the troubleshooting section already saved me once when my drone acted weird. It's actually small enough to throw in your bag, which is nice when you're out flying. Not for experts, but if you're new to drones and want a quick reference that makes sense, this is perfect.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchasePocket Pilot is a clear, handy guide for anyone wanting to succeed at drone flying. As the first book in the Master the Skies series, it covers the essentials of safe piloting, aerial photography, and practical tips for both beginners and hobbyists. A perfect pocket resource to help you build confidence and skill in the air.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book is perfect if you're just starting with drones or want to get better at flying them. Amanda Otis explains everything in simple terms that anyone can understand. It covers all the important stuff like safety rules, how to check your drone before flying, and what to do when things go wrong. The book is small enough to carry with you when you go flying. I wish I had this when I first got my drone - would have saved me from a lot of mistakes!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAs a drone newbie, I found this book to be a concise and helpful guide for getting started with flying. It clearly explains the basics of drone operation; including safety tips and legal regulations; which is exactly what I wanted.
The sections on pre-flight checks and troubleshooting were especially useful; offering straightforward advice for avoiding common mistakes. I appreciated the clear pictures and note-taking sections; which made it easy to reference and personalize.
If you're new to flying drones; this is a solid book for beginners looking to fly responsibly and effectively.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2026Format: KindleVerified PurchaseHowever, more advanced users may find the content somewhat limited. The guide focuses heavily on foundational skills, so those looking for in-depth technical details, cinematic filming techniques, or advanced drone customization might want more depth than this book provides.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI gave this to a family friend who just got their first drone and they said it really helped them feel more confident. I read parts of it myself and liked how it explained the basics without getting too technical or overwhelming. It covers safety rules, flying tips, and even a bit on photography. It reminded me of when my son tried flying a drone without any guidance and ended up stuck in a tree. This guide would’ve saved him a lot of trouble.

SherbieReviewed in Spain on September 4, 20254.0 out of 5 stars Handy little book
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis pocket sized guide has some really useful information for new pilots. It covers the important essentials that everyone should know before flying the aircraft, regardless of it's size. The book is broken into chapters covering the essentials and not going into great detail. This book, as stated by the title, can be read quickly but covers everything necessary for safe flying, with the added bonus of some photography and videography tips. For anyone starting out this is a great little guide and easy to understand. Fly safe!

JoeyReviewed in the United Kingdom on February 6, 20264.0 out of 5 stars Clear beginner drone guide
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA concise, practical introduction to drone flying that covers safety, controls, and basic aerial photography in a way that feels approachable for first-time pilots. The notes sections and clear explanations help build confidence quickly. It is largely based on US regulations, so UK readers should cross-check local CAA rules, but as a starter reference it works well
