The Bookworm and the Cat's Meow (The Shops at Sunshine Bay) Kindle Edition
When life gives you a second chance, sometimes it comes with claws. 🐾❤️📚
After his divorce, Lance Reed trades city chaos for the cozy charm of a seaside bookstore in Sunshine Bay. He hopes for peace, quiet, and maybe a fresh start—until the local pet rescue asks him to host a few adoptable cats in his shop.
There’s just one small problem: Lance hates cats.
Enter Raven Johnson, the spirited, cat-loving woman who runs The Cat’s Meow Rescue Centre. Also divorced and in her fifties, Raven has poured her heart into caring for her daughter and her feline friends. She has no time—or courage—for romance.
But when the bookshop and cat shelter become unexpectedly intertwined, sparks begin to fly amid the fur and fiction. Can Lance open his heart to the four-legged troublemakers invading his store—and to the woman who believes love deserves a second chance?
📚The Bookworm and the Cat’s Meow is a sweet, heartwarming small-town romance filled with humor, healing, and hope. Perfect for readers who love later-in-life love stories, animal rescues, and uplifting women’s fiction with a cozy coastal vibe.
Part of the Shops at Sunshine Bay series of heartwarming, small town, later in life, romances.

About the author

Jeanine Lauren is a USA Today bestselling author who crafts heartwarming women’s fiction and sweet romances, blending friendship, love, and second chances. Though she spent much of her life writing for work, school, and those never-ending to-do lists (admit it, we all have them), Jeanine found her true passion in creating stories that feel like coming home.
In 2019, she took a leap and published Love’s Fresh Start, the first book in her Sunshine Bay series, and she’s been making up for lost time ever since, bringing readers back to this beloved small town for stories filled with warmth and possibility.
Jeanine lives near the breathtaking coastline of British Columbia, not far from the fictional town of Sunshine Bay, where love and community are always in season. If you’d like to be among the first to know about her next release, join her mailing list—you might just get a sneak peek into her latest project!

- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI read another review about this book and I knew I had to read it as well. It is such a sweet story about a cat rescuer who meets the man who just bought the bookstore in their little town. I really liked the theme with cats, books and the 50+ year old characters that I could relate to.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI enjoyed this coming together of two people finding their way back from life changes. I liked the setting and loved the cats!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSuch a heartwarming story about two people and many cats and how they start off on the wrong foot but end up on the right foot and their many adventures and misadventures in between. Loved it. Plan on reading more by Jeanine Lauren. For anyone who loves stories about cats.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2026Format: KindleThe Bookworm and the Cat’s Meow was such a heartwarming, cozy read! The charming bookstore setting, adorable rescue cats, and sweet small-town vibe made this story impossible not to love.
I especially enjoyed watching Lance and Raven’s relationship grow — their second-chance romance felt genuine, mature, and full of warmth. The character development (yes, even the cats!) added so much heart to the story.
If you love books, cats, and uplifting romance, this one is definitely worth picking up. It left me smiling from beginning to end. 💕🐾

I have read three books from this author and this one is my favorite book from her. I loved the slow burn, the town, the plot, and the characters are chef’s kiss. Definitely recommend

Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI loved The Bookworm and the Cat's Meow because it always makes me feel happy to read about cats and books. What a great idea to combine a bookshop with a cat rescue centre to find the cats' humans and get more people reading! I would love to visit Vancouver Island one day, it sounds like a very beautiful place. Finding out how, not if, Lance and Raven would get together was interesting as well. A great read if you love cats, books and a good yarn!
