This is my first encounter with this author's writing, and I must say that I enjoyed it, especially given my profession as a piano teacher. Although the idea of a man hiring a nanny and eventually falling in love is familiar, this book's unique twist lies in its parallel storylines. Unfortunately, the multiple narratives sometimes caused confusion, as it was not always clear which storyline was being followed. Despite this, I found the book to be engaging and recommend it. It’s a story of forgiveness.

With a husband that travels with work, Doris has been the supporter for family and friends. When her husband leaves saying he needs to find out what he wants to do, she continues with her music store, her widowed son, and grandson handling problems that arise. She is thinking of turning the store over to her son and retiring but currently she has no idea where her husband is. He won’t communicate with her, and she is left with the feeling he doesn’t want in the marriage anymore. Robert, her son, is raising his son as a single dad and needs a nanny to help but a longtime friend of his wife’s seems to always tell him something the nanny is doing wrong causing him to fire them. Kiran, a woman looking for a fresh start in a new town has applied to be Robert’s nanny. She likes this town and this family and is thinking about settling down here if she can get a job as a schoolteacher. As Zach instantly becomes attached to Kiran, will she be able to satisfy the nosy neighbor looking for a fault. Will Robert finally be able to move on as he misses Kiran when she isn’t there. When Doris goes to take care of her brother Jock, she just might find out what she is missing and what makes her happy. Between all their lives and miscommunications, they all seem to be going in the right direction. I guess you can say love conquers all.

I’ve just finished ‘Making Sweet Music’ by Jeanine Lauren, the first story in a series set in Sunshine Bay, in Canada.

Do you like tense stories? Sorry, this isn’t it. How about cussing? Nope. Do you want a hero to bring the world back from the brink of destruction? Explosions? Murder & mayhem? Still, nope. Do you demand steam in your romance? You’ll have to keep looking.

I read a lot, & have enjoyed all of those elements. (Except for the cussing; to me, it still seems like limited vocabulary or imagination 😆😉😆)

If you want a story about an everyday family, one where the members love, care, respect each other? Hmmmm.

I got to spend time with 3 generations of the Hudson family of Sunshine Bay. Are they perfect? Another no. Do they have problems? Loss? Miscommunications? Issues as changes come into their lives? Yes.. like most folks do from time to time.

Do they have to learn to embrace some changes? Disregard others? Forgive? Yes. And they learn to do it because at their foundation, they truly love one another.

I enjoyed my time with the Hudson family and their friends. They’ve faced some of the dilemmas that I have faced. We’ve made some of the same mistakes, some of the choices. They are folks I’d like to have as neighbors, friends, part of my family. I’d welcome them. I feel that they’ve already welcomed me.

Will I come back for the next story? Yes, I think I might. Thank you Ms Lauren for inviting me into their world.

Really enjoyed this book! Got caught up in my mind while this 'where is Neil and is he being faithful to Doris?

Author carried this question throughout the book and her main characters were easy to follow and care for. Doris, Mom, Wife, Sister and over all Manager of Everyone's life, schedule. She likes to manage and help her children, Robert and Nora's lives and families. She is very understand and is always in 'take charge mode' forgetting Robert and Nora are adults and can handle their own lives. She eventually gets that message while trying to figure out what and where Neil is and up to while being non-communicable.

Neil, Doris' husband and missing husband is trying to find himself while deciding what to do as he nears retiring age and Doris starts wondering what she would like to do in the near future. This was a very realistic and drama filled read that kept me page turning to find out what happens til the very end of the story.

This is the second book in the Sunshine Shops series. Doris owns a music shop in Sunshine Bay and her son Robert is working with her. Robert and his son Zack live above the music store and they are both musically talented. Doris’s husband has left to find himself he thinks she is way too involved with everything but him. Doris is such a mother hen making sure Robert and Zach are okay all the time. And, for some reason their child care workers don’t last long. So Doris sets up interviews to find yet another child sitter so she can go find her husband and convince him to come home. In pops Kiran and she instantly wins over Zach and of course Doris. I loved reading this novel and to know there are second chances out there for everyone.
