Taking Time: ... A Tale of Physics, Lust and Greed Kindle Edition
Joined by the alluring and mischievous Sheila Schuler and the dangerous industrial spy Marta Hamilton, Marshall embarks on a journey that challenges everything they thought they knew about time and causality. As evidence mounts that the past may be irreversible, corporate investors demand proof the past can be manipulated—or threaten to pull the plug.
The unlikely trio is sent back to Marshall's high school days with a seemingly simple mission: save the life of his unrequited love. But in a world where powerful corporations will stop at nothing to protect their interests, the travelers find themselves in a deadly game of cat and mouse. With time running out and lives on the line, Marshall and his companions must navigate the treacherous waters of temporal manipulation, corporate greed, and their own conflicting motivations. Can they change the past without destroying their future?"

Editorial Reviews
Review
"... a delightful, perhaps even beachy read. It's perfect for both sci-fi fans and those new to the genre. While readers might not have all their questions answered, they'll laugh out loud, root for the underdog, and even see a few villains get their just desserts."-Remy Poore for IndieReader
"With dynamic characters and futuristic science, the story is a sci-fi lover's dream! And just as the cover promises, there is just a little physics, a bit more lust, and a ton of greed to help round out this exciting novel. The pages are filled with manipulations and mysteries, but also a healthy dose of humor to keep the whole thing from taking itself too seriously. Taking Time is a slightly satirical and entirely entertaining twist on a time travel tale." -Five-Star Review by Steve Quade, Indies Today
"Taking Time puts the mechanics of time travel front and center, showcasing what's possible within the laws of physics yet explaining matters in a very accessible way. The process sounds plausible and scientifically sound, with Murphey devoting a fair amount of the narrative setting up the parameters of this historic breakthrough. It's easy to get swept away into the story, as the characters hurtle headlong into strange universes while dealing with ethical dilemmas, psychological trauma, and murderous enemies hiding in plainsight." -The Online Book Club

- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis story was captivating from the first sentance. This particular book has been in my kindle for quite some time while I continued to read others work i have been reading for years. I read a synopsis of this particular book and was a little intreged, polished it off in a little over 12 hours, book two is next. I'm sure it will be just as exciting. Mike, well done, thanks.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA twist on the usual time travel tale, doesn't involve actual people running around in the past. Looking for next book in this set of 3, need to the up a couple loose ends. A good read.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI enjoy reading first in a series. This one was quite a lovely read with character voices well differentiated, plot developing evenly and a reasonable end. I applaud the well tailored effort in writing this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseMike Murphey shows readers that time travel is a new and fresh subgenre that anyone can enjoy. The novel seems to start as a Doomsday style novel with the government and corporations living underground. But it soon becomes clear that Murphey has other plans. The approach to time travel is unique, captivates readers, and delivers a rainbow of emotions. Readers will finish the book with a sense of completion and connection with the main characters. Even the inner journey is fleshed out with reasonable accuracy and detail.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is certainly a worthy read. We have teams of travelers shuttling back and forth in time, some with bad corporate motives and through all the twists and turns we don't learn who the bad guys are until the end. There are some interesting aspects, scientifically. For example, how does a person traveling back exist given their younger self also exists in the past. What about going forward in time? The author Murphy sticks to Einstein as a theoretical base on how everything works as opposed to the usual going through the old time portal that no one explains. The author uses the wormhole idea to plunge back in time. So there is some good science here to chew on.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseStrong science fiction that doesn't get so wrapped up in the science that the characters suffer. The relationships developed through the storyline are relatable & there's a healthy dose of humor as well. Can't wait for the next book in this series!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a phenomenal read. I was actually in the middle of another book when I got this; I peeked at it just to see, and next thing I know I am absolutely enthralled. The author, Mike Murphey, clearly a very deep and playful passion for sci-fi from the days of Wells, and the varied and mysterious laws of science.
Though this story takes place in the future, Murphey so flawlessly blends the reality we know now with a distorted potential reality to come. He clearly shows great care and respect for time and the ways it moves, and the ways that moments can change you, shape you. He brings this to the evolutions of his characters in a lofty and fluid way. A brilliant blend of everything you want in a vivid and engaging time-traveling sci-fi read.
I'm excited and intrigued to read more!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFinally, what some of us have been wanting: an adult time-travel novel! If a bit of nudity and sex puts you off, then stay away. The story and its treatment of TT is unique and very entertaining. Found myself laughing out loud on multiple occasions. And the writing is wonderful!
I’m off to read the second installment.

bushbabyReviewed in the United Kingdom on June 28, 20244.0 out of 5 stars Interestingly different take on time travel, slightly unclear ending
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIn spite of the quirky sub-title I found this a good, serious SF novel with a refreshingly different take on time travel. The writing was good, with plenty of twists in the plot. I wasn’t entirely happy with the ending, otherwise it would have been 5 stars, but I guess this was partly to do with setting up further books in the series.
