The Outlaw and the Sheriff: Outlaw Brides Series Book 1, Sweet Western Historical Romance Kindle Edition
Just when all hope seems lost, fate intervenes in the form of Blade McCreery, a charismatic ranch hand. He rescues Jerrellyn and ignites an unexpected romance that challenges everything she thought she knew. Determined to right the wrongs of her family's past, Jerrellyn risks her life to make amends for the harm they have caused. But her efforts are met with resistance from her own blood, leaving her trapped between loyalty and a desire for redemption.
Meanwhile, Blade has risen to become the County Sheriff and must lead a posse to capture the Ables gang. Torn between his duty to uphold the law and his growing feelings for Jerrellyn, the two together are caught in a dangerous game of love and justice.
As the final showdown approaches, looming questions hang in the air. Will Jerrellyn be able to break free from her family's clutches? Can Blade reconcile his duty with his love for her? And amidst the dust of the Old West, a vendetta-driven Pinkerton agent threatens to tear them apart. Will their love prevail, or will Jerrellyn face the horrific consequences of her family's crimes?

About the author

Hello and welcome to my author page. Let me tell you a little about myself, as that seems to be the main purpose of this profile. Believe it or not, I began my fiction career in the third grade when I told my class that a little sister I never had died of a black widow bite. I also wrote books through my teen years, always about a girl whose mother mistreated her by making her wash dishes, sweep the floor... you get the idea. Never finished any of those stories. But the idea of writing a real book and publishing it never occurred to me. It was a particularly vivid dream that drove me to drag out a portable typewriter and go to work on my first novel. In 1990 my second completed book, Tender Touch, brought me a first place win in a writing contest and the following year became a Golden Heart Finalist. That won me an agent and a contract from Kensington who published five of my western historical romance novels. My books have placed or won in other contests as well. Forever Mine received a Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award nomination. I've always loved the Old West and I believe my novels reflect that emotion through their depth and vibrancy. I am always working on a new story. I hope you try my books and enjoy them. Follow me here on my author page and on my website at https://charleneraddon.com & get a free book.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe story takes place in 1887 in Colorado. Jerrellyn and her youngest brother, Brodie, are expected to be lookouts for her father and brothers as they carry out robberies. Unfortunately, Brodie will fall off his father's horse during their getaway, and Jerrellyn will return to rescue him. Then her older brother, Trap, will start shooting behind without looking and Jerrellyn and an innocent bystander will be shot.
Blade McKendrick loves the area and has been working as a cowhand for one of the ranches. By chance, he will wander upon the Ables homestead and find Jerrellyn bleeding and home alone. He will help her, but she needs him to leave. He assures her he isn't a lawman--and it was the truth when she asked.
The story's plot will have Blade meeting up with his friend, a marshal, and being offered the job of sheriff. Then as sheriff, he feels it is his duty to tell Jim about discovering where the Able Gang is located and formulating a plan to arrest them. He also needs Jim to understand that Jerrellyn isn't involved with the robberies and actually was shot by her own brother.
The story has the good, the bad, and the ugliness of people. It is mystery, suspense, and life and death danger--with a touch of romance. While Jerrellyn and her young brother, Brodie, are innocent of the crimes, there are others who still want to hold them responsible and make them pay. A Pinkerton agent won't let it go that Jerrellyn is innocent and is willing to kill others if need be, to see her pay. Blade will take several bullets trying to protect her. Will it be too late to save her after she is taken away?
The story is to be part of a series, Outlaw Brides and was a very enjoyable, clean Western historical tale. I look forward to reading more in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2024Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseWhat a delightful novella! I don’t usually read historical western romance, but this story pulled me in with sympathetic characters who I wanted to see succeed. Jerrellyn Ables is a spunky gal who finds herself on the wrong side of the law. Blade McKendrick is a newly sworn in sheriff who is determined to help her overcome her past. Of course, they fall in love. Who stands in their way? A Pinkerton agent who threatens to destroy both of their lives. Pick this one up. You’ll be glad you did.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis cover really drew me in, but the story kept my rapt attention! Of course the bad guy was over the top and he really gives a bad name to his career choice! I wish her Aunt was mentioned in the epilogue.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI enjoyed the book! Jerrellyn’s father and brothers were outlaws. All Jerrellyn did was old the horses.one of Jerrellyn’s brothers accidentally shot her. Blade found her bleeding when her family left her behind. There is excitement and drama starting in the first chapter and continuing until the book. This is a clean wholesome book that you won’t ant to put down. I highly recommend reading this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhat a fun story! I loved it. Charlene never disappoints and this one certainly entertains. The ending had quite an unexpected twist that sealed the deal for me.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2025Format: KindleJerrellyn tries to look out for her little brother and keep him from becoming an outlaw like their Pops and older brothers. While alone and recovering from a gunshot wound her “angel” arrives to take care of her but is gone in the morning. Later, that angel takes the job of sheriff and arrests her family. If you like old western love stories, this book has it all, outlaws, family, romance, a crooked Pinkerton, and animals you will love. Oh, and suspense!!! You will definitely get involved in this short, suspenseful read and stay up too late reading!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2025Format: KindleJerrellyn isn't your typical western girl, she wears her brothers hand me down pants and takes care of the household for her father and brothers. Blade is a ranch hand for a local ranch when he decides to take on the job of county sheriff. Jerrellyns family is wanted by the law for their thieving and that puts her at risk when she falls in love with Blade, now a sheriff. I enjoyed all the twists and turns in this sweet, historical romance.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2025Format: KindleInteresting story, The Outlaw ànd the Sheriff. Jerrellyn is shot and hurting. Her Dad and brothers just robbed a bank and she is the one with a bullet in her. She hates this life and wants something better, like when her Mom was alive. She meets Blade and hopes her life will change, only thing sometime between meeting him and now, he has become a sheriff. Can things get any worse.
