For so many, the past often brings pain from sadness and sorrow. But every so often, a lesson from the past helps us heal with the courage to break through. This is when life continues into a better place than we imagined.
    Great story and characters.

Grace is heartbroken when her best friend dies. She has always been a loner, but now she really has no one else in her life. She prefers getting lost in a good book than going on adventures. Then, she meets David and all that changes.

David is a kayak instructor, and he manages to convince Grace to join in on one of their classes. Grace surprises herself by agreeing to go. David has his own demons to conquer. The last thing he wants is a commitment, but he can’t get his mind off Grace.

This is a sweet, poignant romance. It is inspirational and left me feeling warm and fuzzy with a few tears, too. It totally grabbed my heart. It's a very short novella, but it packs much drama into it.

I never read this author before, but I’ll be sure to check out the rest of the books in this series. I don’t think it matters what order they are read. It didn’t matter to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

This story has a good storyline. With realizing it’s a novella and novellas are not in depth I still felt this story was too choppy.

Grace was grieving the loss of her best friend when she sees David kayaking. They talk. He happens to teach people to kayak and Grace happens to want to try to new things.

It’s a quick and easy read.

This was a lovely, easy read—just right for those moments when your mind needs something gentle. David and Grace are two quietly wounded souls, each carrying the weight of their past in different ways. Their contrasting personalities bring an interesting dynamic to the story, and it's heartwarming to see how opposites can sometimes find connection where it’s least expected. I also appreciated the glimpse into the world of kayaking—it made me curious to try it myself, though I do wonder if it’s quite as effortless to pick up as Grace made it seem!

First time reading something from this author. I loved this short story about grief and love. Grace seeks to honour her loved ones by seeking adventure for a change and it helps her step out of the sadness and loneliness of loss into a new beginning. This story speaks to the significance of human connection and the beauty of nature in helping to cope with grief and support living.

Kayaks and Kisses is related to the Sunshine Bay Shops series, by Jeanine Lauren.
It’s not, very long, about 50 pages, so ideal if you want a brief, relaxing read.
We meet Grace at a difficult time in her life; she has literally just buried her best friend. Nearby, is the grave of her brother, gone too soon while on an adventure. Grace is contemplating what her brother Tyson would say if he was with her. She looks to the River, & sees a beautiful man, pull up in a kayak. David has recently come to Sunshine Bay, and is getting his kayaking business going. He sees Grace, and is struck. Before she knows it, quiet, safety-conscious Grace has agreed to a kayak lesson!
This was a sweet, gentle story, about two rather lonely people that meet at a crossroads. These aren’t kids, or even 20-something’s; ages aren’t given, but the impression is late 30’s, even early 40’s. I mention this, because even mature folks can be hesitant to open to a possible relationship. It can be awkward. What if one suddenly pulls back, scared to admit their growing feelings?
Kayaking can be an adventure, but an even greater adventure…a greater risk…is love.
Thank you Jeanine Lauren for a sweet, gentle story.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and HiddenGems for the advanced copy. Below are my honest opinions.

If you were to take a shot every time someone said "adventure" in this, you would blackout by the end. Other than that, this novelette centered around the love story between Grace and David. Their relationship develops quicker than normal, however, given their stages in life, it's not too unbelievable. I really enjoyed how David would encourage Grace to challenge herself and to trust her instincts. Also, Grace insisting on learning how to escape if the kayak would turn over was genius. Ma'am likes to be prepared and it paid off.

However, as much as I wanted to root for the couple, their interactions didn't seem as natural as they wanted them to be. And the first time they met was after a funeral, her best friend's funeral. And once they exchanged pleasantries, Grace casually mentions that her brother is also dead, and it just painted the picture of a really vulnerable woman that should not have been looking to fall in love/date during that time in her life. The same can be said for David - to go from a bitter divorce and never wanting to settle down, to suddenly wanting to put down roots just didn't make sense for the character the author had built.

Maybe if this wasn't a novelette and the characters could have been more fleshed out, these qualms might have resolved. But accepting what was given, the story was just okay.

Nice story. Romantic but a bit predictable. Boy and girl fall in love. Commitment issues? A near death experience? But it is a romance after all. Kept me interested and I found it moving.
