Editorial Reviews
Review
"This is a lovely book whose objective is to teach children that our common humanity unites us more than any differences divide us. This is creatively done by presenting fictional biographical sketches for children living in various parts of the world. If that were all there was to it, you would have a run-of-the-mill children's fable. What elevates this book to true excellence is how the author has surreptitiously woven in actual factual information about the various countries into the fictional biographies. In this way, children are not just being taught that we are all humans, they are being given lessons (without them even knowing it) in things like what a foreign country's flag represents or what kind of foods are commonly eaten there. The entries for Afghanistan and the Balkans also weave international relations and world history into this rich tapestry of learning. This is sure to entertain the kids, which they will enjoy, but it will also educate them across a broad range of global topics, which every parent should appreciate." - Andrew Carnabuci

About the author

First, let me say - I didn’t set out to become a writer. I was too busy running — literally.
At fourteen, I was a competitive runner with my eyes on the finish line… until a friend (bless his clumsy soul) accidentally shattered my knee and my athletic dreams in one fell swoop. Overnight, I went from racing tracks to lying flat on my back, trapped beneath a fortress of blankets and a towering stack of Harlequin romances.
My dad took one look at those bodice-rippers scattered across my bed, said nothing, and disappeared — only to return moments later, drop a book onto my lap, and declare: “You need to broaden your reading horizons.” The book was Iceberg by Clive Cussler. And just like that, my fate was sealed. Dirk Pitt became my new hero. Adventure, mystery, danger — all danced off the page and straight into my imagination. While my knee healed, a new dream took shape: I wanted to whisk readers away on thrilling journeys of their own.
So here I am: a writer fueled by a twist of fate, a determined dad, and the legendary Clive Cussler. And while I may not be sprinting down tracks anymore, I’m still chasing stories — and loving every second of the race.
It means the world to have you here with me. May my stories spark your imagination as wildly as they've sparked mine.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is book four in the author’s “I Am Proud” series, available as eBook, paperback, and hardcover. It consists of short biographies with national highlights of youths from a selection of 19 different countries or states of the USA. (Other books in the series deal with other geographic selections.) The objective is to illustrate commonalities despite different languages, customs, and so forth. The youths are fictitious, though inspired by real people. The selection of countries and states in the book are genuine: American Samoa, Bangladesh, Belarus, California (USA), Cambodia, Cook Islands, Greenland, Indonesia, Kenya, Maldives, Morocco, Netherlands, New Jersey (USA), Oklahoma (USA), Panama, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Taiwan, and Virgin Islands. The book is organized alphabetically by location name. Each vignette reads like a letter to someone in the USA from a thoughtful, educated, and friendly youth along with colorful photos of national flags, native peoples, and activities in daily lives. The vignettes are well written and edited.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI'm embarrassed to admit that this book is aimed at kids, but it's full of information about the world that I didn't know (and probably 'should' know) as an adult! For instance, that Panama uses US currency, and how Saudi Arabia gets their water. What's also great about this book is the emphasis on careers and the wide variety of career ideas featured. The chapters, though PACKED with information, are short; which makes it a non-overwhelming read. I left this book wanting to check out her other books!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAll of the places represented have such unique facts delivered! I’m excited to continue with the series of books and look forward to breaking out some of these tidbits when the opportunity arises, like the 25-hour time difference between the Samoas. Very interesting stuff.

Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe book includes interesting facts about each listed country as well as stories from children and young adults from around the world. The book is written with a light heart and it is easy to read.
I was born in Kenya, married a Scotsman, and now live in England, and I am proud of who I am.
When I first started reading the book, I was immediately drawn to the story of the Kenyan young lady Chepkirui. I adore flamingos and am proud but the majestic elephant is my favourite animal. You should go on a safari in Kenya one day.
